  MANCHESTER, N.H. (BP) -- Following three other local Baptist association mergers, the New Hampshire Baptist Association became the fourth to dissolve and join the Baptist Convention of New England during the association's annual meeting on Oct. 19.

  The merger is part of an overarching plan set in motion by the BCNE titled "Uniting New England Baptists." The plan seeks to combine assets of smaller Baptist associations with the BCNE to provide more resources for local churches to create vibrant expressions of Baptist life. Read More

  DALLAS (BP) -- Your local Baptist association's DOM (director of missions) soon could be the AMS (associational mission strategist) if the association takes the title-change recommendation of a report to be presented next month at a gathering of associational leaders.

  A 12-member study team commissioned at the 2017 Southern Baptist Conference of Associational Leaders (SBCAL) meeting in Phoenix surveyed more than 400 Southern Baptists online about their views of associations, interviewed leaders of about two dozen effective associations and wrote a report on the title and role of associational leaders -- often known as DOMs. Read More

  PIKEVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- Most church leaders believe their financial contributions to local Baptist associations are "a good kingdom investment" while others are struggling to see their relevancy, according to findings from a national survey released Monday (July 31).

  "When asked to describe the most exciting aspect of their local Baptist association, the most popular answer among church leaders was 'nothing,'" said Jason Lowe, a Kentucky director of missions who led the study that looked into attitudes about the work of local Baptist associations. Read More

• Serve Day catches community's attention

  TOPEKA, Kan. (BP) -- An outreach effort in Topeka, Kan., has utilized local media coverage to publicize the ministry of Kansas Baptists and to share the love of Christ in America's heartland.

  The one-day ministry, called "Serve Day," is put on by the local Flint Hills Baptist Association. Each year churches that cooperate with the association join together to repair homes, install smoke alarms and meet other physical needs in the community. Laying a foundation for churches to share the Gospel is the ministry's first priority. Read More

• Association pioneers church revitalization model

  ST. LOUIS (BP) -- Two years ago, First Baptist Church of Affton, Mo., knew it was dying. So it sought help from the local St. Louis Metro Baptist Association.

  In a process facilitated by executive director of missions Jim Breeden, First Baptist decided to replant itself in March 2016 as Church at Affton, led by replanter Jason Helmbacher. During its first year, the replant baptized 15 new believers and has come to average just over 100 worship attendees -- about 40 of whom were First Baptist members before the replant. Read More

  COLUMBUS, Miss. (BP) -- The Golden Triangle Baptist Association defies the stereotype that large churches tend not to be involved in their local Baptist associations.

  Large and small churches cooperate eagerly in this three-county association in eastern Mississippi. Last summer, Shawn Parker, pastor of a church with 600 in worship, preached a revival at a church of 60; the pastor of a church with 1,100 in worship, Chip Stevens, serves as the current associational moderator; and pastors of churches ranging in size from 30-250 meet weekly for fellowship.   PEMBROKE, N.C. (BP) -- In 1881, Burnt Swamp Baptist Association, an association of Native American Baptist churches, was established. From its humble beginnings of three churches in Robeson County, N.C. -- two of which still exist -- the association now includes 70 churches in 10 North Carolina counties and two neighboring states.

  Coharie, Haliwa-Saponi, Lumbee, Pee Dee, Tuscarora and Waccamaw Siouan make up the multi-tribal association's membership, which was distinctively Baptist from its beginning. Read More
